Introducing Great Authors

I am celebrating because students liked their science fiction novels so much, they decided to choose more books in the series or by the same author. Those who read City of Ember, by Jeanne DuPrau, are excited to find out what happens in The People of Sparks. Readers of Virtually Perfect are finding more books by the author, Dan Gutman. And readers of Running Out of Time are eager to read additional books by Margaret Haddix Peterson. I guess one of the best way to encourage reading is to introduce students to great books by authors who have written several books.

  1. Thank you for your post and welcome to the world of bloggers!

I think you are so right about the importance of providing a spark to ignite student interests in a genre, author, or series. Some of my favorite books were recommended by friends.

  3. Mrs. Laven,
The City of Ember was one of my favorite books! I think you should get the full series: The City of Ember, The People of Sparks, The Prophet of Yonwood, for your class.
Another book by Margaret Peterson Haddix that I think you should get is Claim to Fame. It's a great book!
